In the Fall of 1983, Louis Testa and his wife Janis finally opened their own bakery. Born and raised in West Philadelphia, Lou had gained his baking experience and know-how from working at multiple bakeries in the Philadelphia area. They set up shop on Brookline Boulevard in Havertown, Pennsylvania to specialize in Italian cakes and pastries, exactly what they continue to do today, thirty years later.
Testa's Bakery grew as a family business, especially with the help and support of both Lou's and Janis' parents in the early years. Whether they were assisting with maintenance of the store or watching their young children during the busy holiday times, family was a critical piece to the bakery's success. Siblings, in-laws, nieces, and nephews have all helped with the baking and selling of our products. Of course, when each of three daughters were tall enough to see over the counter - the deciding factor in knowing when the time was right - they spent their weekends in the store throughout high school and college.
With so much family involvement, the Italian tradition of our products hasn't changed. Year after year, we continue to use quality ingredients along with our recipes from day one to deliver the same favorites we continue to hand-make on the premises that our customers keep coming back for. It is our pleasure to provide delicious products for you to share at your table with your family, whatever the occasion. And we appreciate our customers' patronage to allow us to continue to do what we love!
